The Xpress Lid
The Xpress lid by SmartCup is a one-use interpretation of a French press, which is a filterless coffee brewing device invented in France in the 1850s. Enthusiasts feel that French press coffee is the best way to experience the flavor and aroma of quality coffees because the coffee grounds remain in direct contact with the brewing water and the grinds are filtered from the water via a mesh instead of a paper filter. Coffee brewed with the French press captures more of the coffee’s flavor and essential oils.
The XPress Lid Story
Jeff Baccetti, SmartCup (founder), resides in the Northwest, the home of high-quality specialty coffees. He was interested in making a portable French press as a way to take an ultimate cup of coffee to work on his morning commute.
“My wife actually was the inspiration. She was pouring the french press we made in the traditional Bodum french press into a paper cup to take it on the road with us. The idea hit me: There must be a way to make great coffee to go in a paper cup that can be disposed of and does not have to be cleaned up… Two weeks later I had the first drawings complete”.
XPress Lid is stackable, disposable and recyclable. It fits the typical 16oz paper cups used by most specialty coffee retailers. Coffee is brewed by placing the coffee and water together, leaving it to brew for a few minutes, then depressing the supplied plunger to trap the coffee grinds at the bottom of the cup. Enthusiasts now have the option of brewing their own cup of coffee to the strength and flavor they choose.
SmartCup manufactures the disposable XPress lid for commercial and home use. It was invented by founder, Jeff Baccetti.
